Educational Christmas Gifts for Kids

General No Comments »

One of the merriest occasions in a kid’s life is definitely Christmas. This is certainly one of those times where kids get a lot of presents from almost everyone in their life. Thus, Christmas became the most anticipated season of the year, more than their birthdays because not only they are going to receive several gifts but also because it means vacation time for them.

Mostly kids receive toys as Christmas gift. It is ranked as the most common and most appreciated present being given to them. However, giving them something educational in nature should also be taken into consideration since it promotes mental and skills development, which is vital in their growing up years. Though some might think that kids will appreciate it less, there are items that will definitely interest them and will be well-appreciated.

1. Instructive computer programs

This is one area where learning is fun. Kids will definitely be interested to manipulate the computer with the assistance of an adult. In this way, you are able to introduce the basic parts of a computer and its basic functions – like the use of keyboard. If the child is uninterested in this kind of toy, showing him or her perks of it may catch his or her attention. One of the most popular games among kids is “Where in the World is Carmen, San Diego”. This game combines tasks that are detective in nature coupled with current events and math and word games. Educational games like Puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy not only stimulates critical thinking and develops their vocabulary, but enhances their knowledge as well.

2. Craft sets

Craft sets are toys that are considered a medium for mental exercise, allows kids to use their imagination and creativity. They are mostly bits and pieces of small items that needs to be assembled together in order to form a specific figure. Lego’s are one of the most famous craft toys. These packs may range from the most affordable to the most expensive. It is often available on craft shops and toy stores. It is important however to consider the age of the child when buying these sets. There are packs that warn buyers that specific ones are only good for children on a particular age. Neglecting this warning signs may prove harmful to the kid, especially if it comes with sharp objects in it. It would be also helpful to assist the child, if it is their first experience to play with this kind of toys, as it is quite challenging for them to read and understand instructions.

3. An educational trip

Giving the child a day to the museum, the art gallery, or the zoo is not only fun but a learning opportunity as well. It is vital to consider the interest of the child to make the experience a memorable one for him or her. Letting him or her choose which place to go recognizes an important link between decision-making and the development of self-esteem. This will not only be a learning experience for the child but an opportunity to spend time and bond with them in a cost-effective manner.

Tips on How to Save Money For Christmas Gifts For Kids & Last Minute Chistmas Gifts

General No Comments »

Running low on cash to complete shopping for Christmas Gifts for your kids, and hoping that you’ll have money to pick up the last minute Christmas gifts you need?

Many things in life that are “Free” are overlooked or ignored. As people of habit we tend to do the same things over and over again. We shop at the same stores. We buy the same products. We shop out of need rather than planning. We are in a rush and shop without taking advantage of bargains and sales.

At the grocery store we shop for what is in our heads or on the shopping list after work, and then go home and prepare dinner. We ignore the free weekly sales brochure at the entrance of the store. We buy the same brand name of soup without comparing prices of soups in the same area. We buy bread and mayonnaise for sandwiches that will go with the soup.

So what did you miss? You missed a lot of savings that would provide you with EXTRA MONEY for shopping for Christmas gifts. If you would have picked up the weekly sales brochure at the entrance, you might have seen that Campbell’s Chucky Soup was on sale….Buy 2 Get 3 Free. So instead of buying your regular brand of soup at approximately the same price with no sale you could have SAVED MONEY.

You also may have found that instead of the loaf of bread that you normally purchase which was not on sale, you could have purchased a Brownberry 100% Wheat Bread and got ONE FREE (this also is a healthy made bread). As for the Mayonnaise, you could have just grabbed any jar including Hellman’s. You overlooked the fact that one of the jars of Hellman’s offered for the same price included "FREE 33% More mayonnaise" …10 ounces for free.

Hopefully when you shop you carry the store’s loyalty card that not only provides you with additional savings on other products throughout the store, but provides savings to you and your wallet on every visit. There was also a page of grocery breakfast items that were on sale and adding another $1.00 off each product when you bought any five of these named products for an additional savings of $5.00.

On Mondays, Dominicks/Safeway offers a rotisserie chicken for $5.00 and on Friday a pizza with one additional topping for $6.99 (you can even call and order it in advance, and have it ready when you arrive). This means more savings each time you shop with your loyalty card and that saved money can keep you shopping for your last minute Christmas gifts.

If you really took advantage of the sales on the soup, the bread, and the breakfast items by buying in bulk, you saved money not only this trip but also on your future grocery trips. On a recent trip to Dominicks/Safeway I took advantage of these sales, and filled my cupboard with 10 cans of soup (6 free) and 4 loaves of bread for my freezer and 5 breakfast items that included juice, sausages, coffee. Before swiping my loyalty card at the cash register, the total was $53.01. After swiping the card, the total was $19.62 which represented a savings of 63%. Dollar wise the savings amounted to $33.39.

Remember the Christmas gifts for your kids or last minute Christmas gifts needed to be purchased. This savings of $33.39 might make the difference for you and your loved ones. Feel free to take advantage of one of my many tips on how to save money this Christmas Shopping Season, and enjoy a good hot cup of coffee with toast and sausages for breakfast, and soup and a sandwich for lunch knowing that you got everyone on your list a personalized Christmas gift.

Intelligent Christmas Gifts For Kids

General No Comments »

Parents are spending more and more money each year on Christmas gifts for their kids, the reasons for this are many. One reason is that parents seem to have more money now than parents did 20 or 40 years ago. This may not actually be due to parents having more money, but rather, in many cases, a result of the growing trend to buy on credit. 20 and 40 years ago, parents had mortgages on their houses, but today most adults have thousands of dollars of credit card debt in addition to having a mortgage on their house.

So while in some cases, 21st century parents do actually have more money, in many cases it is simply a difference in philosophy. Buying Christmas gifts for the kids is certainly a cause worthy of a little credit card debt.

Another reason for the increase in spending on gifts for kids at Christmas is the change in the type of popular toys; 25 years ago, toys did not walk or talk, and they certainly did not get popped into a video game machine and get played on a screen. Today, not only is the platform for video games expensive, but buying each individual game costs a small fortune as well—and, lets face it, they dont fill up the area under the tree very well! My question is this: If we are going to spend so much money on Christmas gifts for the kids, should not they have an additional benefit than just being entertaining? How about toys that promote learning?

Thought-Provoking Toys

So maybe your child would not be very impressed with a cd-rom with math games on it as a Christmas gift. Just because its a cd does not mean that kids will like it. some kids will enjoy Christmas gifts for learning such as the math cd, but many others will just find it dorky.

How about books? Many kids dont like books, but if you know what they are interested in, and I mean, what they are REALLY interested in, you can encourage them to read by giving them books on that topic. Another idea, for the video-games-only generation is to buy the kids comics or strategy books. If you have a young child who has not learned to read yet because he is always in front of the video game screen, this is a terrific option.

Puzzles are another good idea. A 3-D map of the world puzzle is a great learning device, but does not seem like one. Try also science experiment kits or how-to science experiment books. The key is to encourage inquisitiveness and mental action. We all know that this generations thumbs are well trained, this Christmas lets look a little deeper when picking out Christmas gifts for the kids. Your kids will benefit and you will feel better about dropping hundreds and hundreds of dollars consider it an investment in your childs future.

Great Birthday Gifts for Boys

General No Comments »

Boys can be tough to buy for—especially if you already have "every" action figure ever made! Don’t buy another video game, just because you can’t think of anything else! Consider one of these kid tested ideas for your next "boy" gift:

1. Storage for cars or action figures: Little boy toys like cars and action figures are great for prompting pretend play and role playing—but the small pieces get scattered everywhere. Your house will look better, and your son will be more likely to play with his cars if they are all in the same accessible place. Look for a storage set specifically designed for cars or action figures, or select and decorate a large tackle box.

2. Sports Equipment: This may seem obvious, but a sports set with equipment of the right size (scaled down for little guys, regulation sized for big kids), will keep your child motivated and moving. Consider a basketball hoop, soccer goal, or for the little ones, a t-ball set.

3. Skateboard, skates, or scooter: Depending on his age, one of these fun and functional transport devices is a great addition, and will be sure to encourage physical activity. If you buy one of these items, be sure to supply the proper safety equipment, and explain the rules for use as well.

4. Fishing gear: Supply your son with his own fishing rod and tackle box. Little kids will enjoy using a smaller sized rod featuring their favorite characters. Kid 8 and up can use a standard sized rod. Depending on where you live, you can go fishing, shrimping, or crabbing—the one on one quiet time you will have together is just as important as the catch of the day!

5. Tent or Tunnel: Offer a pop up tent or tunnel, and allow your son to use his imagination. A tent can become a fort, a spacecraft, or even a play house, all in a single day. Look for a tent or tunnel that folds compactly for easy storage.

6. Visit a zoo or museum: Have some one-on-one time with your child at a zoo or museum. If your son is interested in dinosaurs, check out an exhibit, attend a dino-talk, and have lunch at a local museum, and pick up a souvenir at the gift shop as a reminder of the day.

7. Take in a Sports Event: If you have a local major or minor league team, spend a day together at a sports event. If your child has an interest in a particular sport, attending a "real" match or game can be a very inspiring experience for him.

8. Pottery set: You can buy a kit that comes with everything you need to make your own pottery—this very messy activity appeals to boys with an interest in art, and helps foster creativity. Alternatively, provide art materials like paint, paper, and canvas to encourage creativity.

9. Building set: Choose a building set of some type—depending on your childs age, it can be robotic, including moving parts, or a classic "building" toy like plastic or wooden blocks. Either way, make sure you purchase a large set with lots of pieces, and make some space for your "builder" to work.

10. Remote control anything: Boys of all ages—including grown ups, love to play with remote control toys. From helicopters to cars, and airplanes to boats, you can find a fun remote control toy that your son will enjoy.

Top Five Christmas Gifts For Children

General No Comments »

It’s one of the busiest times of the year with the holiday season almost upon us and most of us are racking our brains for gift ideas. Shopping can be quite a chore. There are many choices for gifts and it’s not easy to pick out just the right present for family members, friends, and co-workers. If you are totally stumped for the right gift idea for an adult, you can always fall back on cash or gift certificates. This doesn’t work as well for children, who prefer the fun of opening a present and discovering something wonderful inside a beautifully wrapped box.

Here are a few “can’t miss” suggestions for the children on your list this holiday season. There are gift ideas and ways to personalize each gift for the individual child. Hopefully this will help take some of the mystery out of shopping.

Toys and Games

Although toys and games seem like an obvious idea for kids’ gifts, you might want to stay away from the simpler ones and go with a present that has some educational value. You could also pick a game that can be played with other children in order to increase the child’s social skills. For older children, a nice board game like Scrabble would be a nice fit. Older kids love video games, but you should pick something appropriate and make sure that you know which system they own and what games they already have. For younger kids, there are educational toys that can help with vocabulary or spelling. For the youngest children, a toy that can help teach numbers or colors is suggested. These are gifts that you can feel good about giving. They are not only fun, but provide long-term benefits for increasing the child’s skills.

Stuffed Animals

Kids love plush animals. The right stuffed toy can be a particularly spectacular gift. Kids can collect them as well as play with them, or even take them to bed with them at night. Most of us have fond memories of a favorite stuffed animal from childhood that we slept with each night. Although not obvious at first, the right plush toys can also be educational for younger kids. A realistic plush version of an animal can help a child begin to learn the features of the animal and help them understand its adaptations for living in its particular environment. It will help kids identify the animal in a zoo or in the wild. They can have fun and increase their awareness of wildlife at the same time! Stuffed animals can also tie in to popular kids’ TV shows or movies, like Madagascar or The Lion King. You can give a child a stuffed lion, their very own “Simba.” Perhaps you know that the child wants a pet, but their parents aren’t prepared to get them one for whatever reason. You could get them a realistic stuffed dog or cat. Such a gift could help them to better understand the animal and let them practice taking care of one.

Arts, Crafts, and Books

Another perennial favorite, books and crafts are great for kids. Most children enjoy coloring books. There are different levels of challenge available and kids can really get creative. You might be both surprised and impressed with what they can come up with! They can go from watching cartoon characters to making their own! There are many fine books available for children, both highly imaginative and practical. Books can open up new worlds for children and help them learn about everything from dinosaurs to outer space. They can learn new things and increase their reading skills while still having fun.

Clothing

Children seem to grow quickly and outgrow their clothes before you know it. They’ve probably outgrown the clothes that they wore last year, so a coat, hat or gloves can be a useful gift. Although clothing is not the most popular gift, you can make it more fun by getting creative. Pick something in their favorite color with a cool logo from their favorite movie, TV show, or other favorite character.

Candy and Food

Although it isn’t as popular a choice as a plush toy, candy or cookies can also be successful gifts for children. Food makes a good secondary gift to accompany another gift. You could give them a stuffed bear holding a box of candy. Just check with their parents first to find out about any allergies or dietary restrictions they may have.
Hopefully, this has given you some ideas, and if you can combine something fun with something practical and informative, you will soon have a great gift!

Go ahead and use Iveta Volegna’s ideas for the easiest holiday shopping. To get a head start on your plush stuffed toys gifts visit KCPlush.com for a wide variety of plush toys including the plush lion from the article.

Fun Gardening Gifts Spark Kids’ Interest in Gardening

General No Comments »

Between sports, video games, and other extracurricular activities, kids today often don’t realize how fun and rewarding gardening can be. But with a few fun gardening gifts, you can spark an interest in gardening for your own children, your grandchildren, or students with just a few simple gardening gifts. Children love to try something new. Every time they receive a gardening gift such as a new planter, a garden decoration, or even their own patio furniture, they can "try it out" in a garden they designed all on their own.

Lessons of Planting - Sowing and Reaping

Children need to be taught the principle of sowing and reaping at a young age. They need to realize that every decision they make and every action they take in life brings some type of results, whether good or bad. What better way to teach sowing and reaping than with planting a garden? It doesn’t have to be a large garden necessarily. Just a few short rows of plants, vegetables, or flowers will do.

The child will be able to see results of their efforts as the plants grow. They can care for them and learn responsibility. For vegetable gardens, harvest time is always an exciting time for children. They can even help prepare and cook meals using their newly grown foods.

Gardening Gifts for Starters

To get your child or students started with gardening, give them a gift that includes some unique garden tools (just for them), a few planters that they can decorate on their own, and some packages of seeds. Try an assortment of seeds that can all be planted during the same time of the year so the plants will grow simultaneously.

Garden Decor Gifts for Kids

Once your child or students have located a proper area in the yard for their garden and begin to plant, start giving gifts along the way to help them decorate their garden. Garden sculptures, garden fountains, and garden statues come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They also come in different themes such as animal themes so you can easily find items that your child will love. There are also wind chimes, flags, stepping stones, garden stakes, thermostats, and solar path lights, which make great gardening gifts for garden or lawn decoration. The garden can be finished off with a beautiful arbor or garden trellis decorated with flowers to their liking.

Teach them about Birds

Another way to enhance your child’s interest in gardening is to give them items that will attract birds to their garden. They can watch for different types of birds, discover nests in the trees or hanging plants, and enjoy the birds’ singing. Gifts for attracting birds might include bird feeders, birdhouses, and birdbaths along with some packs of birdseed.

Children usually enjoy creating something big that they can call their own. Creating their own garden will be rewarding and will teach them some valuable lessons about life. To find an assortment of themed gardening gifts, go online today and explore all the great gardening items that are available.
